Description

Bate Mill is a mid-17th century house that was refaced in the early 19th century. It is timber-framed with brick infill and has a slate roof. The walls are brick in an English garden wall bond pattern. The house is two storeys high.

The front entrance has three cambered-headed, three-light casement windows on the ground floor, with a door set to the right. Three similar three-light casement windows are on the first floor, each with a flat lintel. The right-hand gable end features timber framing arranged in a 5x3 cell pattern above a plinth, with a single-light window on the ground floor. The gable contains a queen-post truss with lateral upright struts and a V-strut to the apex. Further timber framing is present at the rear, but largely hidden by 19th-century outbuildings.
