Description
The Old Shant is a former farmbuilding located in Peover Superior, dating from the mid to late 17th century, with additions and alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The structure is timber framed with brick infill and features English garden wall bond brickwork, topped with a corrugated iron roof.
On the entrance front, there are three by two cells of small framing remaining, with a corner post at the far right and angle braces supporting the fourth upright. The building has 20th-century windows. The rear wall is now covered with corrugated iron and plastic, concealing eight by two cells of small framing, with angle braces at the center and corners, and brickwork to the left. The left gable end displays four by two cells of small framing, featuring an angle-braced truss.
Inside, there is a central truss with angled struts and Queen-post trusses at the left-hand gable wall and over the dividing wall, which retains some small framing. The roof is supported by wind bracing.
