Description
The Red House and Bollin Cafe is a former tenement of two houses, now functioning as a house and a bakery. It dates from the early 19th century, with later alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of Flemish bond red brick and features a Kerridge stone-slate roof, stone ridge, and three brick chimneys.
It has a two-and-a-half storey, six-bay front. The house on the left side has four-pane sash windows beneath wedged stone heads, flanking a reeded doorcase topped with a triangular pediment, which is a 20th-century replacement. Above these are four-pane sashes under segmental brick heads, with a pair located in a central gabled half dormer.
The three bays to the right comprise the cafe, which has two Georgian-style bow windows flanking a glazed door, with an additional door at the extreme right. Above are two twelve-pane sashes under rough brick segmental heads, a blocked mid-window, and two similar windows in a gabled half dormer above. The right end of the building features three inserted circular lights. This property is listed for its group value only.
