Description

Brayne Hall is a farmhouse that appears to date from the 17th century but has a core from the 15th century and has undergone later alterations. It is constructed of brown brick with a tile roof and features two storeys and an attic, arranged in three bays with gabled ends. The facade is finished with coursed stucco up to a first-floor band and includes flush casements and a fully glazed modern entrance door. The gables have had 20th-century barge boards added.

Inside, the northwest room contains two heavily moulded 15th-century ceiling beams, along with 17th-century chamfered beams and exposed ceiling joists. The southwest room features a deep bevelled beam carved with a rose and thistle motif along its length, as well as exposed ceiling joists. In the southeast room, there is a plain deep bevelled beam supported by a timber post. The hall has a bevelled beam and an altered staircase in the Jacobean style, along with old boarded doors. A principal rafter of a roof truss is also carved with a rose and thistle, similar to the beam in the southwest room. There are indications that some of the moulded and carved timbers may not be in their original positions.
