Description
Minshull Lock is a lock on the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal, built around 1830 by Thomas Telford. It is located slightly east of Nanney's Bridge on the B5074 road, which connects Church Minshull to Worleston, and it links the Trent and Mersey Canal at Middlewich with the Shropshire Union Canal at Barbridge. The lock features mainly blue brick walls with sandstone quoins, steps, and copings, as well as timber and metal gates. The upper single (west) gate retains an oak beam, while the lower (east) gates have been replaced with metal. There is little evidence of alteration in the opening gear and materials overall.
