Description
Birchall Old Bridge is a disused road bridge dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings. The bridge features a single span with rustication on the lower courses of ashlar, which stops at the springing of the arch and is replaced by brick above. The central round-headed archway is made of brick voussoirs and has an ashlar hood-mould. Below the level of the parapet, there is a projecting ashlar band, with the parapet itself made of ashlar and topped with a cambered coping. The retaining walls on either side curve slightly forward and end in square piers that project slightly. One half of this bridge is located in the civil parish of Hatherton.
