Description

Bank House is a house dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, situated in Hatherton, Cheshire. It is built of plum-coloured Flemish bond brick with ashlar dressings and a plain tile roof. The house has two storeys with an attic and a basement.

The road front features a deep, slightly projecting basement with ashlar quoins at the corners and a chamfered ashlar band marking the separation from the ground floor. There is evidence of an original ashlar window surround, now blocked on the left, with fragments of a similar surround on the right, also blocked. The ground floor has two 2-light casement windows with basket arches, though the windows themselves are 20th century replacements. A band of two bricks distinguishes the ground and first floors. The first floor features two 2-light casement windows, also 20th century. A dentilled brick band runs below the eaves. Gable chimney stacks are positioned to the right and left.

The right-hand side of the house displays a blocked doorway on the ground floor, with bands of two bricks depth separating the ground and first, and ground and attic floors. Two cambered-headed lateral window openings are present on the first floor. The gable appears to have previously contained two lateral attic windows, now blocked. The left-hand side features lateral basket arched windows to both the ground and first floors, again with 20th-century 2-light casement windows. Bands of brickwork separate the ground and first, and first and attic floors. Two basket arched window openings are present on the first floor.

The rear of the house is largely hidden by 19th-century outbuildings. An 18th-century gabled wing is centrally located, concealing a slightly projecting bay.
