Description
Common Carr Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century, although a date of 1741 has reportedly been found. The building has undergone alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of English garden wall bond red brick and features a Welsh slate roof with one brick ridge chimney. A sawtooth brick band is present at the first floor. The end bays have 3-light wooden casements, replacing what were originally two windows with flat brick heads, while above them are 2-light wooden casements. The near central doorway has a segmentally arched rough brick head. The gables feature a raised brick band at the first floor and a dentilated band at the eaves level. Each gable has three ventilation holes with raised brick lozenge-shaped surrounds. At the rear, there are two small wooden mullioned and transomed windows with lattice-leaded glazing, along with a small 19th-century extension. Inside, the layout consists of a two-room plan with a door opening onto a wooden baffle, which is now papered over. The ceiling beams are chamfered and have flat and tongue stops.
