Description
The Schoolhouse Surgery, originally built as a school in 1823, is now a doctor's surgery. It was previously used as an auction room with a Parish Hall above. The building is constructed from coursed, squared sandstone rubble with sandstone dressings and features a Kerridge stone-slate roof with two stone chimneys. It has a rectangular shape and a nearly symmetrical two-storey, five-bay front. The windows are 2-light, chamfered stone mullions with hood moulds, and there is a main doorcase to the right. The eaves and gables are castellated, adorned with heavy plain pinnacles at the corners. A central tablet on the building reads, "This School was erected by Thomas Legh Esq., A.D. 1823." There is a small addition to the left that is in keeping with the original design. The interior has been altered into single rooms on both storeys following a fire, and no original features remain.
