Description

The lych gate to the Church of St. Mary was built in 1891 in memory of John Machie. It features an ashlar sandstone base with chamfered coping and open timber framing. The roof is covered with red tiles and has a hipped and gabletted design, topped with a small wrought iron cross. The tie beam is intricately carved in medieval script, displaying a dedication and a quotation from a psalm. The gate includes two original wooden gates, each with three panels, featuring pierced Gothic upper panels and iron dog-tooth work at the top. This structure is listed for its group value only.
