Description

Worth Hall, now comprising three flats, is a 17th-century farmhouse that underwent alterations in the early 19th century, with later 20th-century additions and internal modifications. It is constructed of coursed, squared brown sandstone rubble with sandstone dressings, and has a Kerridge stone-slate roof, a stone ridge, and four brick chimneys.

Originally rectangular with two smaller ranges set at right angles to the rear, each with a gable, the house has parallel ridges. The west front is two storeys high and three bays wide. It features 16-pane horned sash windows inserted into rebated 17th-century surrounds on the ground floor, each with a continuous projecting band forming a hood mould above, and plain lintels above the windows. The left gable has a partially blocked three-light mullion window with rebated, chamfered stonework in the lower section, and a blocked two-light window with rebated, cyma-moulded stonework above. The east front displays a four-light, double-rebated chamfered stone mullion in the lower section (with only one mullion surviving) and a four-light chamfered stone mullion above, set under a rubble hood mould. The south front has two large bevelled reveals and a two-light mullion window with square-section stone dressings in the gable. Massive roof timbers are visible in all gable ends.

The interior has been significantly altered, but some chamfered beams remain. The variety of mullioned window styles suggests a complex building history during the 17th century.
