Description
Hagg Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with additions and alterations from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The building features a mix of partly coursed sandstone rubble and a partly timbered frame with 20th-century replaced washed brick nogging. It has a Welsh slate roof and three brick chimneys. Originally rectangular in plan, the farmhouse has since become L-shaped. The south front is asymmetrical and one and a half storeys high, with two 2-light horizontal sliding sash windows and two large 20th-century dormers above. The north front has five by three timber small frames with angle braces to the wall plate, now set on a blue brick plinth, and includes two 2-light 20th-century wooden casements.
Inside, the farmhouse reveals that it was originally entirely timber-framed, featuring eight by three small frames along the side. There is a gable-entry with a replaced heck post and screen, and chamfered beams over the fireplace and in the ground floor ceilings. Two original wooden windows with diamond mullions, both six-light, are present, although one is partly hidden and only revealed internally. The roof truss consists of two diagonal struts on an angle-braced tie-beam, with overlapping through purlins, the lower one featuring simple wind braces.
