Description

The canal aqueduct over Shrigley Road was built around 1830 by William Crosley for the Macclesfield Canal Company. It is constructed of squared sandstone rubble with sandstone dressings. The structure features a plain segmental arch and revetment walls that curve from each corner to run parallel to the road. At towpath level and along the tops of the walls, there is flat chamfered coping. Additionally, there are stone steps leading from the road to the towpath alongside the north-east revetment wall.
