It was built between 1847 and 1848, with Terence Flanagan serving as the resident engineer. The structure is made of sandstone and brick and features a slightly curved design, standing 120 feet high. It is supported by stone piers that hold up nine semi-circular arches, each with a span of 50 feet. The arches have red brick soffits and are faced with sandstone.
