Description

Nabbs Cottage is a farmhouse with an attached barn, dating from 1748. It is now used as a house. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with quoins, and has a slate roof with a chimney on the ridge. Originally, there was a right gable chimney. The design is based on a two-bay plan; a third bay was added to the right end and is not included in the listing.

The two-storey front has a single-storey, lean-to porch on the right end, with a rectangular lintel above the door and a slit peephole in the front wall. To the left of the porch are two four-light windows with chamfered mullions and plain hoodmolds. Above, on the first floor, are three windows with similar mullions, of three, two, and three lights respectively.

The attached barn, extending to the left, has an outshut to the first bay, with a doorway at the left end bearing the initials "JL". Modern garage doorways are visible in the second bay. The left gable wall contains an owl hole with a perching stone, dated 1748. The rear of the building has been largely altered and now features recent additions made of compatible materials and in a matching style. Inside the house, the interior has timber-framed partitions.
