Description

The summerhouse, also known as Prospect Tower, dates from the 17th century and was likely restored in the 19th century. It is currently in a derelict state. The structure is made of coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and features a cross-gabled roof, although the stone slate covering is now missing. This square, single-cell building has a raised single storey with a basement level beneath. Each side of the building is gabled, with finials on the gables and at each corner, most of which are damaged or missing.

On the south side, there is a raised doorway with a moulded surround and a Tudor-arched head, flanked by a single round-headed light on each side. A continuous dripstone runs around the entire building, stepping over the door. The other three sides each have a recessed 5-light window with ovolo-moulded mullions. On the left side at the lower level, there is a doorway with a chamfered Tudor-arched surround, and the rear features a 2-light window with a hood-mould. None of the windows have glazing. The building is situated on a prominent site and may have served as a vantage point for viewing hunts.
