Description

Nos. 87 and 89 on High Street is a house that likely dates back to the early 17th century. It is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and features a stone slate roof, with chimneys at both ends. The building has a two-bay end-baffle-entry plan and stands two low storeys tall. At the right end, there is a later two-storey gabled porch made of dressed blocks, which includes a doorway with chamfered jambs and a lintel, along with an oval window above it.

On the ground floor, there is an inserted door in the center and two double-chamfered stone mullion windows with hoodmoulds, consisting of four and five lights. The first floor has three windows with three, two, and three lights, all featuring chamfered mullions. The rear of the building includes a three-light mullioned firewindow, which is now under a glazed porch, a single-storey extension with quoins, and various modernized windows.

Inside, there is a large inglenook with a timber-framed heck, chamfered ceiling beams in the housepart, and timber-framed partitions with exposed wattle and daub. In the parlour and the chamber above it, there are rectangular stone fireplaces with chamfered jambs and heads. The original roof trusses are still present, and near the chimney above the inglenook, there is a collar carrying a kingpost, which may have been associated with a former firehood.
