Description

The Old Barn is a large barn dating from 1697 that has been converted into a dwelling since it was first listed. It is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with quoins and features a stone slate roof, which now has a small chimney at the left end. The building has stone gable copings and kneelers topped with ball finials. It stands at two storeys high.

To the right of the center, there is a gabled porch with ball finials on the kneelers and at the apex. The round-headed entrance arch of the porch is now glazed and contains a door. The wall to the left of the porch has a shaped door lintel inscribed with the letters "I" and "C". Beyond this, there are three round-headed lancets marked "1697" at ground floor level, four narrow windows on the first floor, and various inserted windows.

To the right of the porch, there are two large inserted windows on each floor. The left gable wall features a continuous dripstone that steps over shaped lintels at each end and over a blocked two-light mullioned window in the center. At the first floor in the center, there is a blocked doorway with a shaped lintel and a hoodmould, flanked by two narrow windows. In the gable, there is a blocked owl hole. The rear wall has been significantly altered with the insertion of very large windows.
