7/124 Chetham Arms 27.1.1967 GV II

Public house, dated 1746, extended. Coursed sandstone rubble, slate roof with one ridge chimney and 2 gable chimneys. Double pile 3-bay plan, 4th bay added at right end. Three storeys, the original building symmetrical with a central panelled door in a plain surround above which is a large panel bearing the Chetham arms in the centre and lettered beneath "HC" "1746"; 2 ground floor sashed windows with altered glazing, 3 sashed windows at 1st floor and above these 3 low windows with glazing bars, the outer ones horizontal sliding sashes and the centre fixed. Fourth bay is of watershot masonry, has one coupled sliding sash window on each of the upper floors, an originally similar ground floor window now reduced to a centre sashed window without glazing bars. Rear of little interest, interior altered. Adjoining at left side, but not included in the item, is former stable with courtroom over, now altered as cottages.
