Description
This monument, located 25 metres south of the Church of All Saints in Penshaw, was erected in 1878 by Sir George Elliot, Baronet, Member of Parliament, in memory of his father, Ralph Elliot of Penshaw Colliery, who died in 1872, as well as his mother, brothers, and son. The structure features a chest made of grey granite sides with a pink granite top, complemented by an ashlar cornice and plinth. Surrounding the monument is an iron railing set between six low square pillars topped with pyramidal shapes, all resting on a vermiculate stone base atop a large sloping-topped plinth.
