Description
The accommodation arch is located in the railway embankment north of Low Lambton Farm and was built for the Victoria Railway Bridge between 1835 and 1838, with a widening occurring around 1850. It is constructed of ashlar and brick. The south embankment features ashlar retaining walls that flank a skew arch made of ashlar on the western side and a brick arch on the eastern side. The western arch has a bracketed keystone on a band, while the eastern arch is plain. Historically, these arches allowed the Lumley waggonway to pass through the embankment to Low Lambton Staiths, and the widening likely facilitated a gentler curve to the bridge.
