Description
Red Hill House is a colliery manager's house, now a private dwelling, built in 1908 for the Bowes Colliery Company. The house is constructed of brick and features a roof made of Welsh slate. It stands two storeys high and has three bays. The central entrance consists of a four-panelled door beneath an oblong fanlight and canopy, flanked by groups of three casement windows. Above the entrance, there is a sash window, which is flanked by double sashes. The windows are adorned with flat stone lintels and projecting cills. The roof is detailed with barge boards and has two corniced brick chimneys at the ends. Red Hill House is included for its group value with the Bowes mineral railway, which is a scheduled monument, and for its historic association with the railway.
