Description
The Close is a house that was formerly a rectory, built in 1818 by Stokoe of Newcastle. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and features a Welsh slate roof. The building has three storeys and nine windows, with full-height bow windows at each end of the south elevation, which contain three windows each. The first-floor windows in the bows have cast iron balconies. The original sash windows have been replaced with 20th-century casements. There are moulded cornices at the second-floor level and at the eaves on the south front. The roof is low-pitched and hipped, with three transverse ashlar chimney stacks that have cornices.
