Description

Tasker Hall is a non-conformist church school built around 1841 for the Scotch Church, now the Salvation Army Citadel. It was commissioned by the Minister David Tasker to replace a former school for the Orthodox Presbyterian congregation. The building is attached to the south side of the Scotch Church, which dates to 1811 and was designed by John Dobson.

Constructed of sandstone ashlar, the ground floor is now pebble-dash rendered. The roof is covered in Welsh slate and features a tall, corniced ashlar chimney to the north. The building projects from the Scotch Church with a three-bay elevation to the south and east. The main (east) elevation includes C20 inserted doors across the two northern bays and a single window to the south. The first floor features sash windows with glazing bars, set within an architrave and sill band. The right return mirrors this detailing. The ground floor north return has blocked windows. The building appears on the 1896 Ordnance Survey Town Plan. It later served as a church hall, known as Tasker Hall, before becoming a dance studio.
