Description

Low Dock is an early 19th-century graving dock located on the southeast side of Liddell Street in Tynemouth. The structure is 65 metres long and 20 metres wide, built with ashlar that has been repaired with concrete. It features stepped stone sides and a single staircase. At the southern end, the dock gate abutments curve inwards, and although the iron dock gates have collapsed, they previously blocked the mouth of the dock. The northern end of the dock tapers to a point. This dock is recognized as the oldest surviving graving dock on Tyneside.
