Description
South Shotton Edge House is an early 19th-century house located in Stannington. The front is made of tooled stone, while the other walls are constructed from roughly-squared stone. It features tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The house is two storeys high with three symmetrical bays. The central entrance has a renewed door with an overlight above it. The windows are 16-pane sash types with slightly-projecting sills, and all openings are framed in alternating-block surrounds. The gable coping is returned on deep footstones, and there are stepped-and-banded stacks at the ends. The rear of the house has a similar door and window arrangement. This building was formerly known as the Red Lion Inn and is situated on the Great North Road.
