Description
The lodges at the north entrance of St John's Cemetery, built around 1856 and likely designed by Johnstone and Knowles, are a pair of single-storey structures. They are constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and feature Welsh slate roofs with overlapping gable copings. Each lodge has an L-plan layout and consists of two bays, with the outer bay of each lodge projecting under the gable. The entrances have shouldered arches with overlights in extended porches facing the street. The windows also have shouldered heads, and there is a canted bay on the left return that faces the drive. The west lodge is topped with two pairs of octagonal chimneys that have plinths and copings, while the east lodge has boarded-up openings and truncated chimneys.
