Description
Church House, now diocesan offices, was built in 1880 by A. Gibson. It is constructed of English bond brick with rendered eaves coving and has a roof covered in plain tiles, showcasing a Queen Anne style. The building has two storeys and three wide bays, with the outer bays projecting. There are three steps leading to a central double door, which is sheltered by a deep shell hood and flanked by keyed segmental-headed sash windows. Above, there is a tripartite window with narrow sashes on either side. The left bay features a blank ground floor and paired blind windows on the first floor, while the right bay has paired sashes with aprons on both floors, the lower ones having keyed segmental heads. The first-floor openings are adorned with flat brick arches, and there is a sill band and string course at this level. The eaves are coved with a dentilled cornice, and the hipped roof has lower hips over the projecting bays. Each outer bay contains a gabled dormer, and there are two hipped dormers in the centre. The building is topped with four tall, wide panelled chimneys that have deep cornices, with those in front featuring keyed arches. Dwarf walls with chamfered stone coping flank the steps leading to the door.
