Description
The Mather tomb in St John's Cemetery is a canopied tomb built around 1870 for the Mather family. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and pink and grey granite in a Gothic style. The high plinth supports an arcaded canopy that features intricate tracery and decoration. The tomb commemorates Joseph Mather, who died in 1863, as well as other family members, including C.T.N. Mather, who died in 1873. Some of the tracery is damaged, finials are missing, and the tomb copings are slightly misplaced as noted during the survey.
