Description
Nos. 112-118 on Pilgrim Street are office buildings constructed around 1902 by C. E. Oliver for the Consett Iron Company. They are designed in a Free Baroque style and built from sandstone ashlar with a dark slate roof. The structure has four storeys and attics, featuring nine bays. The doors in the central and left bays are topped with oeil-de-boeuf windows set in segmental pediments. The ground floor is accentuated by channelled rusticated pilasters. The first-floor windows have balustraded balconies with double keystones and alternate pediments, while the second-floor windows are framed with architraves. The sashes throughout include glazing bars. The building also has rusticated quoins, a prominent cornice on the second floor, and a top cornice with a balustrade. The mansard roof is adorned with seven square-headed dormers and high, corniced ashlar chimneys.
