Description

Cluny Warehouse is a flax mill dating to 1848, designed by John Dobson for Messrs. Plummer and Cooke. The building is constructed of sandstone ashlar, with a later addition to one side and a Welsh slate roof. The river-facing elevation comprises four storeys and an attic, extending across twelve bays plus a left entrance bay. A high, round-arched entrance to the river, originally featuring impost bands, is now bricked up, flanked by narrow windows; the upper floors have paired sash windows. The main block has ground-floor windows recessed beneath cambered arches. Upper floor windows have cambered arches, fixed lights, and iron bars. A first-floor band is present, alongside a wide eaves cornice with large dentils and a blocking course. A brick addition has some blocked windows. The roof is hipped.
