Description
The bridge over Ouseburn, located in Newcastle upon Tyne, dates from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone and features a segmental arch that is recessed under a chamfered abutment. The parapet courses follow the slope of the road, being higher at the center. The parapet has chamfered coping that ends in low piers; the south-west pier has pyramidal coping, while there is a continuous stretch of wall about three meters long at the north-east. Stone drains from the road surface protrude through the north-east and south-west faces of the bridge. Additionally, there is a mason's mark, which is a diagonal cross in a square, located above the road at the center of the west parapet, and an Ordnance Survey bench mark positioned above the road at the center of the east parapet.
