Description
This is a staggered and stepped terrace of eleven houses, built between 1974 and 1976 by Ralph Erskine's Arkitektkontor, with Vernon Gracie as the site architect and structural engineering by White, Young and Partners. The main contractor was Shepherd Construction Limited. The houses are constructed of pale brick and uneven green weatherboarding on timber frames, topped with shallow double-pitched metal roofs featuring plywood box beam purlins and red weatherboarded eaves.
The terrace is two storeys high, with a sharp bend between numbers 7 and 8; number 7 has a projecting first-floor brown timber balcony in an extra bay to the left, while number 8 is set back. White vertical struts are positioned between the first-floor windows and the red weatherboarded eaves. Notable features include projecting downpipes from the deep eaves, especially prominent on numbers 5 and 6. Full-height weatherboarding is present on numbers 2, 3, 6, 8, 10, and 11, as well as the front of number 9. The gables on the sides are blue, reflecting the terrace's descent down the hill. The doors have glazed panels, with some renewed in hardwood. The windows are made of timber in timber subframes, with aluminium opening lights, mainly sliding; number 5 has been renewed. The interiors have not been inspected.
Granite kerbs at the front come from streets that were previously on the site, and there are brown fences between the houses and at the rear. This terrace forms a major thoroughfare alongside the terrace on Spires Lane.
