Description
White House is a house dating to circa 1780, situated on the south side of Barmoor Lane, Ryton. The house is rendered and has a Welsh slate roof with two corniced brick chimneys at each end. It is two storeys high and has three windows. The central entrance features a four-panelled door with a fanlight, set within a raised stone surround. Venetian windows are located in the first and third bays, and above the door is a round-headed window; all the windows feature intersecting glazing bars within raised stone surrounds. A historical note indicates that Charles Thorpe, rector of Ryton from 1807 to 1863, established a savings bank in the building around 1816. The interior has not been inspected.
