Description
The Nook is a house dating from the late 18th century, located on Barmoor Lane in Ryton Village. The building is constructed of brick, with the left side featuring rubble and coursed squared sandstone. It has a Welsh slate roof with gable coping and two brick chimneys at either end. The house is two storeys high and has four windows. The slightly recessed fourth bay contains a six-panelled door with a radial fanlight, set in a renewed flat doorcase beneath an open pediment. There are narrow windows flanking the door. All windows are sash types with glazing bars, splayed stone lintels, and projecting stone sills. The left side of the house has a sash window on the ground floor and a smaller sash window in the gable peak. A window has been removed from the ground floor of the first bay. The eaves feature a gutter board. Inside, there are wide panelled reveals around the six-panelled doors, and the staircase has a ramped handrail.
