Description
32 Dovecot Street is an early to mid-18th century building that stands three storeys tall with a basement. The front is made of brown brick, featuring a stone channelled basement, stone quoins, keystones, a modillion cornice, and a parapet. It has two brick chimneys, one of which retains its original stone capping, and a slate roof. The windows are plate glass sash with brick flat arches. The entrance boasts a heavy Ionic doorpiece with fluted and reeded engaged shafts, a pulvinated frieze, and a pediment, along with a six-panel door that has a rectangular light above it. There are steps leading to the door, with a ramped curved base where lost railings once stood. The interior is very good, featuring a fine entrance hall with a Corinthian colonnade leading to a wide, open staircase, though this is slightly marred by a porters lodge added on the left. The front ground floor room has a modillion cornice and a later marble fireplace, while some panelling remains on the first floor.
