Description

These are a pair of mid-to-late 18th-century buildings on the east side of High Street, Yarm. They are constructed of local red and buff mottled brick, with a swept pantiled roof, a chimney at the right end, and another behind the ridge. Each building is two storeys high and has one window. The windows are early 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars, set in exposed wooden frames. A four-panel door provides access to a passage from which number 114 is entered. A plaque on number 114 commemorates Tom Brown, a former landlord who was a hero of the Battle of Dettingen in 1743. Number 116 has a plain boarded door.
