Description

Kirklevington Grange is a building dated 1898, noted on the rainwater heads. It is constructed from small, coursed squared stone with large quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring swept eaves and exposed rafter ends. The building is designed in the Jacobean style, with the main front facing the garden consisting of two storeys and five bays. The outer bays are gabled, adorned with sloped copings and spike finials, each supporting a half-octagonal bay with strapwork on the top balcony. The windows are large stone mullioned and transomed casements. The west return has four bays, a prominent chimney-breast, and another half-octagonal bay. The entrance front resembles a rear elevation, being irregular with a large staircase window as its only notable feature. There are modern extensions to the east.

Inside, the building showcases a high level of craftsmanship, including a fine carved oak staircase and extensive panelling in the stairwell, dining room, and drawing room. The woodwork on the doors, chimney pieces, and fireplaces is of individual design. The windows feature cyma moulded members with condensation wells. The bronze, brass, and iron work throughout is of special quality. Public rooms and principal bedrooms have good plaster cornices, and the drawing room includes an Ionic screen with fluted columns.
