Description

Tower Court, dating to 1864 and altered in the 20th century, was likely built for James Taylor. The villa is constructed of white Pease brick with ashlar dressings, featuring a Welsh slate roof, terracotta ridge, brick chimneys, and stone gable copings.

The building is three stories and has a three-window front. A prominent octagonal tower rises over a projecting entrance bay, which has a double-chamfered stone surround to the half-glazed door, with a plain overlight and side lights. Above the doorway is an oriel window with a stone floor, sill band, and stone parapet. Narrow sashes are placed in alternate planes of the tower, set under stone battlements. To the left of the tower, a crow-stepped gable features a renewed ground-floor window. Stone mullioned windows, three-lights wide, are positioned on the first and second floors, with hoodmoulds over the second-floor window, which is raised over a high central light. A small vent slit sits in the gable peak.

The left bay of the house contains a square, projecting stone bay on the ground floor, a canted bay on the first floor, and a three-light second-floor window, all in stone surrounds with stone mullions beneath a stone corbelled eaves gutter. A steeply pitched roof is topped with a tall, square brick chimney with a battlemented stone coping. The right return, facing Windsor Road, has a wide crow-stepped gable over a central, renewed door, with a small light to the side, beneath a tall stone panel. Paired sashes are positioned on each upper floor, flanked by alternate block surrounds. A lower, wide section to the right has a pointed arch to a stone surround of a renewed door, with an overlight. A projecting centre features a three-light ground-floor window with a stone mullion, and a renewed first-floor window under a stepped parapet to a dormer gable. The interior has not been inspected. The building is included for its group value with other buildings on Glenside.
