Description
The Old Church of St Germain is the tower of a former parish church, with the rest of the building now only a few courses high. The lower courses may date back to the medieval period, while the remainder was constructed between 1820 and 1821. The structure is made of coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings, and features a stone spire made of blocks rather than slates.
The exterior consists of two stages. The first stage has a plinth and features a blocked west door with a boarded, two-centred-arched overlight, and a similar smaller blocked arch in the east wall below the former roofline of the chancel. The second stage has plain stone surrounds and Y-tracery to the two-light windows on the north, south, and west elevations, situated below an eaves string and a battlemented parapet. The tower is topped with a tall octagonal stone spire. Additionally, there is a fragment of a nave rubble wall attached to the north elevation. The interior has not been inspected, but an annual service is held at this site.
