Description
This is an early 18th-century dovecote, with 19th-century alterations, situated on land that was formerly part of the Marske Hall estate, but is now the gardens of numbers 26 and 28 Redcar Road. The dovecote is of brick construction and stands in the garden of number 26. It has a roof of Welsh slate with stone ridges, and an octagonal plan. The exterior features boarded doors in the north and west bays of the second floor, which contain pigeon holes and shelves. Asymmetrical floor and eaves strings are present, with some loss of moulding. A low-pitched hipped roof is topped with a central wrought-iron finial. A ground-floor door is not visible. The interior has not been inspected. A garden wall, constructed of stone on its west elevation with ashlar coping, is attached to the dovecote and runs northwards. The east elevation of the wall is not visible. The wall is ramped up at its northern end.
