Description
The walls surrounding the grounds of the Church of St Mark in Marske were built around 1866 and altered around 1921 by F.P. Cockerell. They are made of rock-faced sandstone with ashlar coping. The low walls enclose the churchyard and have been modified to create a recess for the War Memorial. The walls are interrupted by piers spaced 2 meters apart and feature wrought-iron gates leading to the south porch, as well as timber gates at the east vestry. The walls have flat coping, while the piers have stepped hipped coping, from which chain links are suspended.
