Description
The Old Limekiln in Whittle Quarry, located 550 metres south of Low Whittle, is a limekiln that likely dates back to the early 19th century. It is constructed from roughly-squared stone and features brick-lined openings. The structure has a roughly semicircular shape and includes three segmental drawing arches with stepped buttresses positioned between them. The central arch is corbelled down to a single arched opening, while the side arches lead to twin round openings. On either side of the arches, there are large raking buttresses. The pot of the limekiln is largely infilled and overgrown.
