Description
Nos. 47 and 49 on Gilesgate are late 18th-century buildings that stand three storeys tall and feature three windows. They are constructed of painted brick, with a stone plinth, cill strings, window heads, and a door surround specifically at No. 49. The buildings have brick chimneys and paired windows on either side of a central window, all fitted with glazing bar sashes. No. 47 includes a plate glass shop front that has three fascia brackets and a central entrance. The rear of the property is two storeys high. Together with Nos. 45 to 49 (odd), Giles Place (Nos. 1 to 5), Holy Island House, and Holy Island Cottage, these buildings form a group, with Giles Place being of local interest.
