Description

Mitford Castle features the remains of the west curtain wall buildings, dating from the 12th and 13th centuries. The structures are made of squared stone and consist of three lengths of wall, each displaying different construction techniques and types of masonry. The northern section includes a postern that leads into the motte ditch, which has a shouldered lintel beneath a pointed relieving arch. In the southern section, the partially exposed footings of an adjacent range of buildings can be seen on the east side.
