Description
Mitford Castle features two headstones located to the north of the chapel ruin, likely dating from the early 12th century. These headstones are part of a cemetery that contains several sepulchral monuments, which were uncovered in 1939. The northern headstone stands 0.40 metres high and displays an incised equal-armed cross with an expanded center. The adjacent body stone has been moved to Mitford churchyard, situated on the north side of the chancel of the parish church. Unfortunately, other stones have been removed or destroyed by vandals.
