Description
Mitford Castle features the remains of a chapel from the mid-12th century, which was largely destroyed by quarrying in the early 19th century. The structure is built of squared stone. The lower courses of the eastern part of the north wall are thickened internally at the east end to support the vault of the sanctuary or short chancel. Notable surviving elements include the moulded base and the attached jamb shaft of the sanctuary or chancel arch.
