Description
This is a row of townhouses built around 1831 as part of the Howick Street development. The properties at numbers 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 form a group of twelve. They are two storeys high, with numbers 8 and 16 having two windows each, numbers 10 and 12 having three, and number 14 having one. The exterior is ashlar, with the stonework stepped upwards to the south. Horizontal bands are present on numbers 10 to 14, and all properties have moulded eaves cornices. The roofs are slate, with coped verges and chimneys that have been repaired in brick. Most windows are original glazing bar sashes, although number 14 has modern casement windows. Number 8 features a round-headed doorway with a six-panel door, and a wide segmental coach arch to the right. Numbers 10 and 12 also have wide, depressed coach arches; number 12, formerly The John Bull Inn, has an unevenly spaced arrangement of windows and a glazed doorway.
