Description
This listing describes a group of four headstones made of sandstone, located approximately 2-10 yards south of the Church of St. Andrew.
From right to left, the headstones are as follows:
1) The first headstone dates to 1736 and features a small tablet with a scrolled pedimented top, where the scrolls frame a skull. The inscription is worn.
2) The second headstone belongs to the Anderson family and dates from 1782 to 1792. It stands about 3 feet high and has a shaped pedimented top that is carved with angels and scrolls.
3) The third headstone is for Robert Colley and dates to the mid-18th century. It has an elaborately shaped and moulded pedimented top, vigorously carved with two angels and wings, along with a skull, crossbones, and hourglass below.
4) The fourth headstone dates to 1741 and features a shaped pedimented top carved with an hourglass and skull, with high relief bones on the reverse side.
