Description
Hepburn Bastle is a tower house dating from the 15th century, with 16th and 17th century windows. It is constructed of dressed coursed stone and features a tunnel-vaulted basement along with two floors above. The building has a chamfered plinth and a further chamfered setback above the first floor. There are two original slit windows in the basement, while the upper floors contain mullioned and mullioned-and-transomed windows. At the time of the survey, the building was roofless and unoccupied. The spiral staircase has collapsed. Hepburn Bastle was first mentioned in 1509 in Archeologia Aeliana, Volume XIV, published in 1891.
